MY FAVOURITE LIP PRODUCTS

Over the past few months I have been conjuring up a decent lip collection (finally!), full of lipsticks, glosses and lacquers which I love and wear on a day-to-day basis. However, a couple of the shades I branch out and reach for if I was going to a special event or occasion if they’re on the more daring side!

Firstly lipsticks; I have four in my favourites, three of them are Mac, and one Rimmel London Kate Moss. All of which I adore for different reasons.

IMG_0542IMG_0547

Firstly, ‘Shanghai Spice’ which is my favourite nude shade of all my favourites (ha!) as the cremesheen formula glides onto my lips perfectly and keeps them feeling really moisturised and nourished. However, I particularly love this shade as it has slight peachy tones in it which is great as it makes my face look more vibrant and alive. This product is great as it is obvious that you have something on your lips, but it doesn’t look too dramatic as it is a shimmery nude shade, which is great for an everyday look.

I have only recently bought Mac’s Matte ‘Ruby Woo’, however I have been loving it. This is one of the first matte lipsticks that I have tried out due to my apprehensive and incorrect preconceptions that a matte lipstick would completely dry out my lips and make them look really wrinkly and gross… and boy I can say I was so wrong! This lipstick is a lovely deep red which in fact actually nourishes my lips, despite it being matte. However, one slight problem with this lipstick is that due to its strong pigmentation, if you smudge it or apply it in a rush and get some product around your mouth it does stain it a bit, meaning I had a slight red line down my cupids bow the first time I applied it, (not a good look!). So would recommend using a lip liner before applying the product for those who aren’t comfortable or used to applying deep reds. Apart from that, this lipstick is amazing and love wearing it on nights out to make my make up stand out that little bit more.

Mac’s ‘Sunny Seoul’ was the first Mac lipsticks I ever bought, and it had me hooked right from the beginning! This is such a pretty nude, with more of a pink tone running through it which looks so pretty to wear on a summer’s day! It is also super shimmery which makes it look all the more lovely. The formula is very smooth and applies really easily to the lips due to the moisturising nature of the lipstick. Throughout the summer this was definitely my ‘GO TO’ lipstick. I will definitely be purchasing another one!

Last but not least for my favourite lipsticks is the Kate Moss lipstick in ‘110’. This matte coral shade is beautiful to wear as it really makes my face look more vibrant. It is really easy to wear which is great, however I do tend to wear it more on a special occasion as it is very bright, I personally think it is a bit too dramatic for a day-to-day lipstick. However, I love it all the same. It also tastes and smells amazing which is an added bonus!

armIMG_0548

Now onto Lip glosses and Lacquers which I have quite recently discovered and been loving. Lacquers are great and so easy to apply due to the wand being able to reach all the nooks and crannies. Plus, I love how it stains your lips slightly as it means hints of the colour stays on throughout the day, which makes it look like you’ve put more effort into your make up then perhaps you might have actually done – winning!

Soap&Glory Sexy Mother Pucker

The Soap&Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Lacquer is just amazing. It is a shimmery deep raspberry pink with very slight brown undertones which makes it look so unique and beautiful. I wear this all the time as it’s so easy to apply with the fluffy wand, and the durability of it is good. I would normally have to reapply it a couple of times if I were on a night out, which isn’t too bad for the price of the product. However, this lacquer definitely does stain my lips and makes it appear as if I have product on there even after it has all been smudged off. This is supposed to make your lips appear more plump, i’m not entirely sure it does that. But who cares when the colour itself is so good? However, one criticism about this is that the formula is quite thick so I find I apply the product to my lips with the wand and then use my finger to blend it in a bit to smudge out harsh lines and blotches. But this only takes a few seconds so I don’t see that as a major disadvantage.

17 Ultimate Volume

The 17 ‘Ultimate Volume’ lipgloss is an amazing lipgloss for an everyday look. It is a very light pink/purple shade which takes seconds to apply due to its easy application wand and colour, and lasts a really long time. I love using it as it just brightens up my face completely and just makes me look more vibrant due to it’s shimmery formula, and makes it look like i’ve put loads of time into my make up, when in fact i’ve just whacked this on my lips in no time at all. All in all I love this lipgloss and use it pretty much daily!

Rimmel London Show Off in 300 Out of this World

I have only had the Rimmel London Show Off Lip Lacquer in ‘300 Out of this World’ for a couple of weeks, and I have been obsessed with it since the moment the wand touched my lips. The colour is a beautiful shimmery cherry red, that looks amazing on. Granted, lacquers are supposed to stain your lips, however this one really does and its durability is amazing. The wand is also perfect as the sponge is slightly domed meaning it can reach my lips so easily that it takes application seconds!

BENEFITS OF A LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP

I am currently in a long distance relationship as my boyfriend is in the midst of doing a ski season in France. I went out and visited him early January; but he wont be returning home until mid April.

Although at times it can be extremely hard, there are also some positive factors that have come from it which you may have also found if you are also in the same situation as I am.

You Appreciate Each Other More

You may not talk as much to your other half as you would if they were at home, but, when you do it’s the best thing ever. It may be the occasional Whatsapp or phone call, but when you end up finally calling one another it is the best half an hour ever. You come off the phone feeling a lot happier and revitalised. This is why you’re together; because when you do end up talking, you chat away about the most random shit and end up laughing, and rekindling that spark that may have briefly dwindled away.

You Can Focus On Other Things

When he first went, I was so lost as I thought he was the be-all and end-all. My life revolved around him, and we spent most of our time together. However, after the initial shock of not texting or seeing him every night, I realised I can make a positive out of a negative and instead focus on other things, instead of looking at old photos and pining after him in bed.

So thats when I started focusing on my blog more, and it has made me a lot happier getting back into the blogging community. Focusing on something new and fun has completely changed my mindset. Before, I would usually be wondering, ‘what he is up to now? Is he having fun?’ However, now my main focus is my blog, it has altered my outlook and thought process and instead wonder, ‘what can my next blog post be about? How can I change X Y Z to make it better so my readers find it more interesting/enjoyable?’ etc etc.

You Learn To Trust Each Other A Lot

Although we speak pretty much every day, we don’t always know what’s going on with one another and the people they spend time with. And that is totally ok, because we trust one another so much, that it doesn’t matter.

As he is doing a ski season, it means he goes out most nights and doesn’t get back home until the early morning, this means that I don’t have the urge to wait up for him, instead I go to bed thinking that if anything happened to him, he would make the best decision and not make any silly mistakes.

Trust is super important in a relationship, as without it, there isn’t really a relationship. Plus, nobody wants to spend all their time worrying about someone.. It’s exhausting, and you’re probably over-thinking something that’s minor. If he/she is serious about you, then you need to take their word for it. Take a step back, and if they do do something you’re not happy with, then you know she/he is not the right person for you, and you can learn from it.

When You Do See One Another, You Have The Best Time

Like I said earlier, I went out to France and visited him a few weeks ago, and it was the best thing ever! We spent a whole week together pretty much in one another’s company, and it is just so nice and refreshing knowing that after being away for so long, you’re still the same couple, and they are the same person you fell in love with.

When you’re together, I found that it also reiterates why you’re together, and how well you get on. It’s the best feeling in the world, and confirms that the distance is so worth what you have with your special someone.

I’ve only listed a couple of things that I have found as beneficial when you’re in a long distance relationship, but there are so many others!

Have you ever been in a long distance relationship? If so, how did you find it?

EYELASH EXTENSIONS

Well its been a while since I have sat down to a write a blog post, and my gosh have I missed it! It angers me that I haven’t taken the time out to actually focus on my blog; something I really enjoy doing.

However, new year new me and all that crap… I am going to start blogging all over again as it brings me so much joy and writing is one of my favourite things!

So, to put you up to speed, I am off to France on Sunday and am flying on my own for the first time EVER (I’ll let you know how that goes). My boyfriend is currently doing a ski season over there at the moment so I am going over to join him for a week, and try my best to learn to ski (hold the laughter)

Anyhow, my first thought when I was told that I am going to be in the snow for a week was; ‘WHAT ABOUT MY MAKE UP?’ as snow and black mascara is not a good combination.

Because of this I thought I would treat myself to eyelash extensions! I’ve had them in the past but a long time ago so completely forgot how magical they feel. I’ve had them on for about 4 hours now and I cannot get enough. I went with a new technician today too and she so thorough and brilliant!

So, for those who don’t know what eyelash extensions are; they are synthetic lashes that are glued using a semi permanent adhesive onto each individual lash to make your lashes look 100% more voluminous and thick. The process does not hurt and it takes around 2 hours for a full set. If you look after the lash extensions well they can last anywhere between 3-6 weeks before needing infills. However I have heard  stories that some women are able to look after their lashes so well that they last 3 months before infills?! That’s some kind of wizardry.

The process does not hurt one bit (actually it’s quite relaxing). Firstly, the beautician will clean your eyelids with a cleaners, then she/he will apply a gel pad that separates your bottom and top lashes together to prevent them from sticking together. After that your beautician will ask what length you would like; I believe I had 9 and 11mm on my lashes which to me is the perfect length.

After the process is complete your beautician will give you a spoolie so you can brush through your lashes each day to keep them in good condition and all facing in the direction they should be. Altogether it cost £55 but it varies between each salon, however I highly recommend having lash extensions as it makes me feel so much more feminine and it means I don’t have to bother with mascara each day which is a complete bonus!

I promise to keep posting from now on as I’ve missed ya all lots!

Life Update!

I genuinely cannot get over that I haven’t posted in three months. I really enjoy writing and customising my blog, but over the past few months every-day life has really taken over and in turn meant that my blog has been pushed to the back of my mind.

However, I am now back from halls and into my family home for the whole summer! I moved back last month, and am already missing university and all of my uni friends so much. But, I have dedicated this summer into my blog and am aiming to write as much as possible.

So, to start, the past few months have been a great whirl-wind in my life, for both positive and negative reasons. Firstly, myself and my boyfriend have split after being together for a year and a half. This was a tough decision but we are both happier separate. It has been hard adjusting to my new form of life as expected, but it’s ok.

Secondly, I finished my first year at university! This feels so weird to type as I feel like I only started and moved into my flat a few months ago. I am really sad I have had to move out of halls and will miss my flatmates dearly. This means I am going to be entering my second year in September, therefore meaning that these next two years actually count. It is going to be hard saying goodbye to going out most weekday nights and rocking up to my 9am lecture with the same make up I wore out the night before. (disgusting I know).

Thirdly, it is Summer time now! This means I am going to try and spend my time wisely. Typically, my Summer’s are spent lazing about and being a slob. However, this year I am going to be productive and try to get myself back on track. Since being at uni my diet was horrendous, which was expected as I was a poor student that ate anything as long as it looked half decent. Because of this, I have set myself a goal to work out 3-5 times a week so I can get my body back on track.

I also want to explore and do as much as possible this Summer. Albeit, English weather can be very unpredictable, but I want to explore and really leave my comfort zone so I can make a Summer I won’t forget in a hurry!

Anyway, enough of me rambling on. How are you? What have I missed over the past three months?

Much love,

Ellen Grace X

A Brisk Sunday Ramble

To me, Sunday is the perfect day to spend time with your loved ones. I love spending Sundays with my family and enjoy quality time with one another and eat home-made roasts or go out for lunch in a local pub. This weekend I was home from halls, so we decided to make the most of it and eat out, as it meant my mum didn’t have to slave away cooking a roast dinners for hours. Instead she could just relax. After we had finished our lovely meals, we decided to go on a spontaneous family walk to a destination that my parents haven’t been in a long time.

IMG_1020IMG_1023

It was such a beautiful day. This is when I truly knew that Spring was among us, which is confusing considering it was snowing about 10 days ago, which I think sums up British weather perfectly. However, it was cold, but sunny. The trees looked exquisite whilst the sun rested behind them.

We trudged through mud and climbed hills which I was loving as it meant I could burn off the Eton Mess Sundae I had just demolished half an hour before.

Whilst in the midst of my work, I noticed it’s not until you actually look around, that you notice how beautiful the Earth is. Everything looked so perfect, yet so messy, with the different colours and shapes of the trees, the dry and wet mud that was sticking to our shoes, the beautiful sky shining above us, with the sun looming down hitting us every time we moved.

After walking (and stumbling) over many different sticks and clumps of mud, we finally reached our main destination; Dead Mans Plack. I had been here when I was younger but had no recollection. It was sentimental to my Mum as she used to visit here as a child. It’s such an amazing monument that should be more widely recognised. I will certainly be visiting here more often during the Spring/Summer months.

What am I doing with my feet?

It was then that I noted to myself that I should go on more walks. Explore some more lovely places and embrace the country side whilst being in the beautiful country that is, England.

What’s your favourite thing to do on a Sunday? Do you know of any amazing walks?

The Most Underrated Drugstore Foundation?

It wasn’t until the other day when myself and my flatmate were flicking through the aisles of Superdrug, swatching all the many beautiful colours on the backs of our hands and swooning over all the new, shiny products, that I discovered the most underrated drugstore foundation – ever. The Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation in ‘100 Ivory’. My flat mate had tried it before and said how good it was, whereas I hadn’t even heard or seen of the product before. So I hastily picked one up since it was on a bargain 2 for £10 offer, plus I thought I had better join the deal with my flatmate (I’m just trying to justify myself spending money) and give this tucked away treasure a try.

IMG_0925IMG_0924

When you think of Rimmel London, to me, it’s all about Wake Me Up and Match Perfection foundation, among others that every single amateur makeup fan would have heard of. However, this one… not so much. Perhaps it’s just me that hasn’t really seen it before in drug stores, maybe I focus on the more liquid foundations in the glass bottles. Or maybe, I just don’t pay enough attention.

I have now been using this product for about a month, and I can tell you, I have been pleasantly surprised. Admittedly, the packaging looks a bit more cheap, as the Rimmel foundations are normally in a Glass bottle with a pump, however this one is in a little plastic tube which needs to be squeezed out. However, the formula is a thick liquid mousse which means that a little goes a long way, (trust me, I only use a small amount and I normally go a bit OTT on foundation), which ultimately means the product itself will last a long time which is great. The foundation itself is also very thin feeling due to its mousse consistency which is great as I hate them foundations that feel really cloggy and thick on my pores. Plus, this foundation is oil free which means it would be great for people with oily skin as it won’t make it worse. Also due to the promising shine control which it guarantees too.

Another amazing added bonus is that this product blends in like a dream. Honestly, I simply apply it with my real techniques buffing brush and it takes seconds for it to have properly blended in which means it’s a great foundation to use if you’re in a rush, as it doesn’t take long at all for it to completely blend in and ready to move on to the next product, which I love. Particularly because most times i’m running late.

IMG_0926IMG_0923

The only downside to this foundation is that I do feel like sometimes it highlights my pores, which is a real shame as it states that it tries to minimise pores. However, in comparison to other drug store foundations its not that bad, as others have been worse.

All in all I love this drug store foundation and is now one of my favourites. Mainly due to its staying power which means I don’t have to worry about touching it up throughout the day, and its lovely matte finish which doesn’t make my skin look dull at all, and its great coverage which can be built upon if necessary.

What foundations do you love that perhaps aren’t that well known?

Much Love,

Ellen Grace X

Signs That You’re Addicted to Makeup

Makeup… to your average girl it’s just something that you apply as part of your daily routine at the beginning of the day. You flick a bit of mascara on your lashes and head out the door, rushing to tend to your daily routine. However, to makeup lovers, applying your makeup everyday is the most satisfying thing. Particularly if you’re trying out a new product for the first time, slowly pulling away the packaging and opening up that bad boy for the first time is one of the most pleasant feelings. Although you’re too scared to touch the product in case you ruin the perfect embellishment. (Or is that just me being weird?)

You know you’re obsessed with all things makeup when you wake up and look forward to applying your daily makeup. It’s not seen as a chore, instead it’s a time to make yourself look and feel that extra bit better. The thought excites me that my face is a blank canvas and I can paint it how I want, with the colours and brands that I desire.

addicted

(Taken from Google images)

You know you’re obsessed with makeup when you come home for the day and spend hours aimlessly flicking through Youtube watching all the makeup tutorials under the sun, or learning how to do a new tip or technique on how to get the best colour combo with your Naked 2 Palette, or even watching reviews on something you desire to buy. It’s so great just reading about makeup and looking up other people’s opinions on it.

naked pallette

You know you’re obsessed with makeup when you can easily spend hours on your favourite brands’ website looking at the new arrivals, or in any drugstore skimming the rows and spending far too long swatching lipsticks onto your hand, trying to find that perfect shade.

You know you’re obsessed with makeup when you look at your entire collection and realise you’ve probably spent equivalent to a years worth of rent on a house. (That sickens me a bit) But then you look at your highlighter collection and you feel that little bit better as you know every penny you’ve spent is worth it.

You know you’re obsessed with makeup when you have way too many of the same product. I hoard makeup so much, it’s awful. But there’s still a little bit of product still left in that £20 concealer pot and I know I will use it.. eventually. (Among the other twelve stacked up in my drawer!)

You know you’re obsessed with makeup when you have 7 of the same mascaras that promise to do the same thing, or 8 dupes of the same Nude shade, (but they’re all slightly different, right?) It’s the same thing every time you buy another makeup item, that when you’re in the process of buying that blusher you know you have 5 others at home that do the same job, but you promise yourself that this one is that little bit different.. Plus it’s high-end so it’s bound to be the best.. right?

IMG_0547IMG_0542IMG_0460

You know you’re obsessed with makeup when you self-consciously look at other people when they’re talking and you think how you would of done their makeup. *I would love to blend your eyeshadow in just that little bit more* or *You just need to add your eyeliner up, that gap is really annoying*… etc. It’s a bad habbit but it just happens.

What signs do you have that shows you’re a makeup addict?

Much Love,

Ellen Grace X
